Three Demolitions on West 40th Avenue

These three houses east of Dunbar Street, have now been replaced by new ones. 

3464 West 40th Avenue. Torn down in 2012.

3350 West 40th Avenue. Torn down in 2012.

3540 West 40th Avenue. Built in 1931, this larger house sat on a 66 foot lot and had the same owner for over 40 years. Torn down in March 2011.

West 24th and 27th Avenues

3383 West 27th Avenue. Sold in August 2011 and torn down in 2011 or 2012.

This one is nearby, at 3449 West 27th Avenue.  Built in 1942, sold in April 2011, and torn down in 2012.

Here are two photos of 3692 West 24th Avenue.  This large house sat high on the tip of the hill just west of Dunbar Street.  Could it have been renovated rather than sent to the landfill? It was torn down in April or May 2012.

 

3835 West 24th Avenue.  Built in 1932, for sale in April 2011, and torn down in 2011 or 2012.

Demolished in 2012 on West 22nd and 23rd

We already have 8 demolished houses from West 22nd and 23rd Avenue on this blog, but here are 4 more:

3553 West 23rd Avenue. Torn down Summer 2012.

3563 West 23rd Avenue, torn down Summer 2012.  This one and the one above are near Dunbar Street, where the first houses were built in the 1920's. An indicative feature is the shape of the porch posts, larger at the bottom than at the top.  Both houses are close to their original condition, at least at the front. How many of these originals will be left?

This "Vancouver Special" was at 3741 West 23rd Avenue. Torn down Fall 2012.

Three More in the West 30's

There was a white fence on which the roses climbed along the sidewalk at 4022 West 30th Avenue.  Credit for this photo goes to a Dunbar resident who captured this in June 2010.  This 50's home was torn down in 2011 or 2012.

Just down the block at 4056 West 30th Avenue was this other 50's house.  Torn down on October 15, 2012.

4024 West 32th Avenue.  An older house than the two above, it was sold in December 2010 and torn down on June 24, 2012.

Four Houses in the West low 30's, East of Dunbar Street

The garden behind 3452 West 32nd Avenue had the advantage of bordering on two lanes, so it was a sunny spot for the palm tree in the background, and you can still see the tranquil beauty of the pond and the garden even though it was not well-tended prior to the demolition.  Will the palm survive?  The next photo shows the severely-truncated back garden with the palm tree toppling a bit.

The neighbourhood has lost both a fine house and a splendid garden, to say nothing of green space. Torn down November 2011.

3581 West 33rd Avenue.  Built in 1930.  Torn down in 2012.

3557 West 31st Avenue.  Torn down October or November 2011.
